Capital put on watch by Illinois retirement fund

US-based Capital Guardian Trust has been kept "on watch" by the $28bn (€24bn) Teachers' Retirement System of Illinois, amid growing concerns about performance.

Illinois cited poor performance of its international equity mandate as the reason why Capital Guardian's existing contract to run a $511m international equity portfolio is in doubt. Other pension schemes have drawn attention to the firm's poor performance in US small caps.
