BIL International, the Singapore holding group, collected commitments for the 5% of Thistle Hotels it needed to take control of the UK hotel operator within 16 hours of raising the value of its bid to £627m (€900m).

The Singapore group upped its offer for Thistle from 115p a share to 130p a share at 16:13 GMT on Wednesday, and by 07:56 GMT Thursday had received acceptances representing 6.8% of the target.
