Barclays’ lawyers quiz key Staveley witness over sale of Newcastle football club

The bank’s attorney Jeffery Onions QC was trying to determine whether Ali Jassim, an adviser to Sheikh Mansour of Abu Dhabi, and Amanda Staveley are still working together

The potential £300m sale of Newcastle United football club was dragged into Amanda Staveley’s lawsuit against Barclays bank on 24 June, as Barclays’ lawyers questioned whether Staveley was still working with one of her key witnesses.

The sale of Newcastle to a Saudi-led consortium, which includes Staveley’s PCP Capital Partners, was agreed in April but has yet to be approved by the UK’s Premier League.
