Barclays has appointed a new head of European pharmaceuticals research following the departure of the previous analyst in charge of the sector to rival UBS.

Emmanuel Papadakis joins Barclays from specialist bank MainFirst, where he was head of the UK research team, according to a person familiar with the move.
