The UK's Association of Unit Trust and Investment Funds (Autif) has hired Richard Saunders to be its director general with effect from May 1.

Saunders spent the first 20 years of his career in the civil service, mostly at the Treasury, where he managed the passage of the 1986 Building Societies Act through Parliament.
