Audit and accountancy watchdog the Financial Reporting Council has appointed a new chief executive as incumbent Sir Jon Thompson resigns to lead rail network HS2.

The FRC has picked former Civil Aviation Authority boss Richard Moriarty to head up the organisation, according to a 31 July statement.
