Global private equity firms including Ares and ICG have chosen or are evaluating operations in the European Union asset management stronghold of Luxembourg as the promise of third-country passports to market to EU investors begins to fade.

With its long tradition as a domicile for asset managers and tax-efficient investment structures, Luxembourg is the firm favourite among these private equity behemoths, FN's sister publication Private Equity News reports.
