Illinois fund braves emerging markets’ ‘perfect storm’

Illinois' Teachers' Retirement System has earmarked over half a billion dollars for allocation to emerging markets, in an otherwise tempestuous week for those tasked with navigating investments in the world’s developing economies.

The US pension fund, which manages $39.6bn in assets for 366,000 members, yesterday handed a $520m emerging markets mandate to Connecticut-based AQR Capital Management.
