Annual Covid jab similar to the flu vaccine not ‘unreasonable’, says health minister

The government remains under pressure to control the outbreak of the South African variant

The Covid vaccination programme in the future could be similar to the flu jab, with yearly “tweaks” to tackle new variants, the minister of health said.

Edward Argar's comments come as South Africa suspended the rollout of the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine following the emergence of data showing that it does not protect against mild to moderate infections caused by the variant.
