Alliance Trust is planning to buy back shares held by Elliott Advisors, the activist investor that bought into the investment company in 2010 in a bid to shake-up performance.

Alliance Trust said in a January 27 statement that it has agreed to buy Elliott's 19.75% shareholding, or roughly 95.4 million shares.
