Alison Rose, one of the most influential women in the City of London, is in line to become the next chief executive of the Royal Bank of Scotland.

If Rose does land the job to succeed Ross McEwan, she would become the first female head of a big UK banking institution. McEwan quit in April but remains with the bank while it searches for a replacement.
